It’s about that time of the year, time to make up my preseason All-B12 list and rank where I think the league’s top players are likely to finish at the end of the year. You can see my projections for the 2015 season or the 2016 season and gauge for yourself my prognostication skills if … [Read more…]
Check it out and see how much of the exhaustion you can hear in my voice from chasing my kid all over Texas for a wedding weekend.
Bobby Petrino’s old offense is starting to fall out of date and he just doesn’t quite seem to realize it. In the past his system combined two-back, downhill running plays with what is now modern pro-style offense featuring concept, dropback passing and 11 personnel sets. Then he returned to Louisville and found himself with one … [Read more…]
Over at Inside Texas, members can get access to Eric Nahlin (best in the region) discussing where the different schools in the Big 12 are right now in recruiting for their 2018 classes. If you’re not a member, you can sign up for a promotion that gives you free access until August 14th. Overall things … [Read more…]
I have a suspicion we may see something like the unique San Diego State 3-3-5 defense in the Big 12 more often in the future, Glenn Spencer has already experimented with some similar stuff in the last few years. It’s a developmental system that requires that the players spend a few years learning all the … [Read more…]
My man Bill Connelly (@SBN_BillC) has made it to the upper tiers of the 2017 Big 10 in his annual preview of every single team in college football. If you don’t track this series every year I don’t really know what’s wrong with you because it’s a fantastic, ongoing stat-based historical of every team in … [Read more…]

The Bears are mixing modern pro-style offense (drop back passing with 11 personnel) with a 22 personnel jumbo set for when they need to run the ball. That might work…I … [Read more…]
Gonna take a brief pause here to talk a little basketball. The Houston Rockets just had a brilliant 2016 season that I found rather comparable to the Art Briles, Baylor offense. They embraced the extremes of spacing and spread concepts with a pick’n’roll offense geared around James Harden surrounded by shooters and typically either a … [Read more…]
My man @The_Coach_A from matchquarters.com did the coaching world a service and summarized a modern, anti-spread defensive philosophy in his new book: I’ll confess, I opted for the Kindle version, which still reads really easily but is perhaps a tad less useful for sharing for coaches that would want their staff to read this book. … [Read more…]
