I took a stab at answering this question over at Football Study Hall and suggested that his football IQ and acceleration could allow him to grow into a Troy Polamalu-like figure down the road.
You’ll notice in the article that I mentioned Ohio State’s defensive shortcoming in needing corner-caliber coverage guys at field safety to protect/maximize Sam linebackers like Darron Lee and Chris Worley. This also ties into the “can you play a 3-4 defense in the Big 12?” question. You can, but you need a guy like Vonn Bell or Damon Webb to protect your space-backer. Ohio State has had those guys so they’ve been fine.
Last year in their matchup against Michigan though, Harbaugh picked at MLB Raekwon McMillan all day long and caused them some problems. Now evidently Worley is moving to MLB where his coverage is a plus for the position. It looks like they’ll roll with another big space-backer out at Sam though.
They might as well, Damon Webb is back after all. It’ll be interesting to see if Harbaugh still goes after a weak spot in coverage or if he now chooses to attack Worley inside with lead runs, this will also depend on the state of Michigan offense of course.
