Is running the ball the best way to do ball control?

I asked that question over at Football Study Hall while examining stats from some of 2016’s better fast and slow teams.

Again and again it seems that a precision passing game has a lot of the effects on a game in terms of dictating tempo and style, wearing down the opponent, and protection the defense that smashmouth ball has been assumed to be best at.
