It was fun to look back at the old Drew Brees Purdue offense in order to do this writeup. That team was running QB draw from empty formations, rolling out empty sets with a TE, and doing all kinds of stuff that’s pretty commonplace today. I guess we have to consider that offense one of the forerunners of what I’m now calling “the Lake Travis option” by which I mean a spread offense heavy on motion, options, hybrid skill players, and savvy quarterbacking.
