The year before Lincoln Riley took over the Oklahoma offense the Sooners were a primarily 21 personnel team, putting FB Aaron Ripkowski and TE Blake Bell on the field in order to help their massive OL plow the road for Samaje Perine.
Riley took his Air Raid background and diversified the Sooner attack without going full-bore passing attack. Now as “the man” in 2017 it looks like he may be spending a lot of time with a fullback and tight end on the field again in a fun new Air Raid/TOFKAP hybrid offense.

Interesting read Ian. What would you say are the primary schematic difference between the Holgoraid and what Riley is doing? Both seem to be wedding the air raid with the deployment of FBs/ TEs to run the ball but both have also had a lot of success running out of 4 WR sets.
Obviously OU has been better at throwing the ball but I think that might have a lot to do with the differences in the skillsets of Mayfield and Howard.

They’re pretty similar, as is the Gundy version.
