Over at SB Nation I did some deep diving on Rudolph’s performance in the Ok State offense last year and how prepared he might be for the NFL.
Oklahoma State’s offense is really kinda similar at this point to “pro-style” offenses like USC but there’s a major difference in where the Cowboys put their emphasis. They are much more akin to Steve Spurrier and the “fun’n’gun” offense that was designed to take deep shots early and often and built around “pro-style” passing concepts that did exactly that. Most college pro-style teams are oriented more around ball-control.
I haven’t seen much from Taylor Cornelius yet but if he’s stronger in that dimension than is Hawaii transfer Dru Brown it wouldn’t be too shocking if he won the starting job.
In other notes on OSU, they’re replacing both tackles which is rough but they don’t seem terribly worried about it. LT Aaron Cochran, the Cal transfer, was much more dangerous as a run blocker than a pass protector and ditto RT Zachary Crabtree. They return three guys who have played a lot in their interior OL and also lead fullback Britton Abbott and star RB Justice Hill.
It’s easy to imagine them being pretty darn good on offense again, we’ll have to see how long it takes Jim Knowles to get their defensive house in order.
